Information about this holiday accommodation

Dick and Annemarie are delighted to welcome you to their charming maison de maître in Beaufort, on the border of the departments of Hérault and Aude in the Occitania region, until recently called Languedoc-Rousillon. The historic village is surrounded by the sun-drenched vineyards of the Minervois, an area rich in history, especially that of the Cathars.

The house dates from 1863 and when you enter it you will find yourself back in time. Many authentic details have been retained. The spacious rooms are attractive and naturally have every comfort.

Around the house you can relax in the garden with its shady and sunny corners, also a nice place to enjoy balmy summer evenings. If it is too fresh early or late in the year to eat outside, have breakfast and dinner in the typical French dining room. In addition to the 'salle à manger' you can also use the salon with library and numerous brochures.

A few times a week it is possible to join the 'table d'hôtes', a pleasant moment to exchange experiences.

Beaufort is a quiet village and has approximately 200 inhabitants. There is a post office and a restaurant and the lively village of Olonzac with all amenities is less than 3 km away. Every Tuesday morning a large colorful market takes place here.

From June to September, a "petanque" tournament is organized every Thursday evening in Beaufort at the municipal "Boulodrôme".

A striking point is the Château de Beaufort, whose existence has been mentioned in registers since the 11th century. Only a small part still exists from that time, because it was rebuilt in the 16th century. In the Middle Ages this fortress served as the first defense for Minerve. This village is 8 km from Beaufort and is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France. It is very worthwhile to visit because of the Cathar history and the special natural phenomena

The beautiful Minervois offers fantastic walking and cycling opportunities. You can choose from many (often marked) routes through flat, hilly or mountainous landscape. A trip along the Canal du Midi, for example, is very different from a drive through the Haut Languedoc nature park or through the wooded Montagne Noir. As a great cycling enthusiast, Dick knows exactly what the cyclist needs and can help him on his way.

Some ideas for nice and interesting trips are Narbonne (classified as 'Ville d'art et d'histoire'),
Béziers and the nine locks of Fonséranes, the Mediterranean coast with its wide sandy beaches, beach lakes (les étangs) and flamingos, the cité of Carcassonne and the Cathar castles

Annemarie and Dick have already traversed the region quite a bit and sometimes have to control themselves so as not to overwhelm the guests with all the beautiful things that can be found there. They also hope to tell you about this once.
